Muscle pain

It is a pain in a specific muscle group or part of the body, often described as a broad or diffuse pain where the patient cannot pinpoint the exact location. The pain typically follows the line of the muscle involved, and it does not radiate along nerve pathways. However, it can cause discomfort or anxiety.

Muscle pain or myalgia may be caused by injury, infections, or health conditions. Muscle pain can be temporary or chronic, localized or widespread, and its severity may vary from person to person. Muscle pain can occur in people of all genders and ages. Those who start a new form of exercise they have never done before may experience delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which typically presents as muscle pain occurring 6–12 hours after exercise and may last up to 48 hours. This muscle pain occurs because the muscles are repairing themselves.

Causes of Muscle Pain
Chronic muscle pain often results from repetitive and prolonged use of the same muscle group in a slow and sustained manner. For example, sitting and working in front of a computer for long periods or engaging in sports activities that repeatedly use the same muscle groups every day. When a muscle is used continuously over an extended period, it accumulates tension and eventually forms inflamed nodules known as trigger points. These small nodules, measuring around 0.5 – 1 centimeter, are embedded within the muscle and surrounding tissues. The formation of trigger points is caused by persistent muscle contraction, which leads to a lack of blood supply and oxygen to the affected area, resulting in inflammation. This inflammation causes pain in the specific muscle area and may radiate to nearby regions.
