Detail

Sports injury

Injuries that occur during sports activities, which may result from overuse, collisions, falls, or incorrect movements.

Types of sports injuries

1. Acute injury
Injuries that occur immediately after an accident or impact. Common acute injuries include fractures and ligament tears.

2. Chronic injury
These injuries result from overuse and occur after repetitive accidents or repeated forces.

The causes of sports injuries can be divided into two main categories:

1. Rapid and forceful impact (contact and acute injury)
2. Overuse or repetitive injury (overuse injury)

Severity of the injury

1. Minor injuries, such as abrasions, skin lacerations, muscle cramps, and overstretching of ligaments.
2. Moderate injuries, such as partial ligament tears, swelling and pain in the injured area, pain during movement, and reduced range of motion in the affected body part.
3. Severe injuries, such as bone fractures or dislocations, deformity of the affected body part, and intense pain.
4. Life-threatening injuries, such as severe trauma to the neck or head, loss of consciousness, and signs of abnormal heart function.

The basic first aid principles for exercise- and sports-related injuries follow the RICE method, as follows:
